Tibor Kalman: Perverse Optimist

HOW Magazine article layout

The grid and typography in this magazine article were designed to match that of HOW Magazine. The article’s author pays tribute to the late, often-trickster, social activist designer Tibor Kalman.

Kalman’s “Perverse Optimist” outlook is shown here by cropping his face to his characteristic grin, and featuring the optimistic umbrella he designed. The second spread of the story is actually ‘inside’ the umbrella, showing a clear cloudy sky above, in the middle of a rainstorm.
